11) Hebrews - Chapter 3:7-end
Back to Hebrews Study Index Page
As we have seen we are the House of God, not the House of Christ.  Jesus is the High Priest.  The Temple was the
shadow of the real.

We are now the spiritual house of God and will ever belong to it if we hold fast the confession.  This confession is an
inward state of full undisturbed confidence.

The Hebrew Christians were warned even as God told them (notice that God is the author of the Psalms) in Psalms
95:11-13.

God does not say listen to me tomorrow, do the work when He asks.  See Acts 2:41, Acts 16:33, Acts 18:8.

To delay means that the heart will harden.  This suggests immediate action in favor of God, not against Him.
Exodus 17 may be referring to when the Israelites cried against Moses (Exodus 17:7).
1) Tempting
2) Strife
Both of the places were near Mount Horeb.  See Numbers 27:14 and Numbers 20:1-13.

Hebrews 3:10 - they tested God for 40 years.  They always wandered in their hearts.  Just like their wandering in the
wilderness they wandered from God.

The word rest probably has two meanings:  one rest in Canaan, two, rest in heaven.

In falling away from the living God.  You can not fall away unless you were there.  A Christian may fall from grace
with an evil heart of unbelief.  However, a Christian may also avoid falling from grace with a heart that does believe.

Hebrews 3:13 - a family should be tenderly affection one to another, encouraging each other while we do have the
opportunity.

Sin is very deceitful.  See Romans 7:18-23.
Hebrews 3:14 - the apostle gives another reason to remain with God - partakers with Christ.  Christ partook of man's
flesh that man might partake of Him.  Being a partaker entitles one to the benefits.  It has the idea of sharing in,
participating with.

How can someone who has had the miracles, the glory, the benefits, and the life with God turn their back?
Hardness comes in many forms.
